Tips for re-integrating women returners into workplace

· Assess new training needs: some women returners may need to update their skills, particularly IT skills. Think about retraining through eg evening-courses, run in local schools or colleges, or special college courses aimed specifically at updating women’s’ skills before or during their transition back into work

· Address confidence issues: confidence is a key issue when women return to work. Help them fulfil their potential and make a full contribution in the workplace by:

Partnering them with a buddy - who can introduce them to people in the organisation and help them settle in

Allowing a slightly longer period of ‘bedding in’ time - to allow returners to find their feet
Providing confidence and assertiveness training

Appraising them on a more frequent basis - so difficulties can be spotted and roles can be made more challenging as self-confidence grows
