Health in the office not as simple as you may think

If you think of dangerous jobs, you probably think about job such as being a stuntman, a fire-fighter, or being in the military. While working in an office is certainly not that dangerous, there are risks that you should be aware of when working in an office environment. These aren’t the sort of risks to your life that you can face in one of the dangerous careers mentioned above, but they are generally some things that affect your health over the long-term.

One of the most important things that you have to be aware about is the danger of residual strain injury, or RSI. This is a condition that can affect your body from sitting in office furniture that has not been properly designed to protect against body strain. You might not think it is particularly dangerous to sit in a desk all day, but these periods of long sitting and repetitive motions can cause harm to the body.

Fortunately, there are many things you can do about this, and most offices today are very thoughtful to their employees health, and do have furniture which is specifically designed to prevent this sort of injury. If you feel you are having some troubles with your body, such as aches and pains, it can be a good idea to speak to your doctor, and see what he advises.

The chances are that if you are having problems it will be down to your office furniture, or your posture. Depending on your doctor’s recommendations, you should speak to your manager at work about having a more comfortable working environment - you should ensure that they give you an appropriate space to work in.

Many women try to eat a healthy diet, and working in an office can sometimes impinge on this. If you are at home, it is easy to put together a meal that has healthy ingredients, such as a salad. If you are at an office however, the chances are that you are not going to have proper kitchen facilities.

This means that it can be difficult to eat healthy, and it is all too tempting to just pick up some fast food. If you want to remain healthy at work, it is a good idea to take in your own food, such as a salad that you have prepared at home. This will remove the temptation that you have to eat junk food at lunchtime, and it will be much healthier for you in the long-term.

Another aspect of health is making sure that you get adequate exercise. Recent studies have suggested that sitting down for prolonged periods of time could be bad for your long-term health, so if possible try and stand up and work for some of the day, or at least make sure that you take short walks around the office in order to remain healthy. This does not replace the need to exercise outside of work, and you should make sure that you get a minimum amount of exercise every week.
