Are you looking to gain funding?
Investing in Women will provide you with the knowledge and skills to help you set up your own business and gain start-up funding or to grow your existing business and gain funding for expansion.

The project will allow you to develop the knowledge and confidence to reach investment ready status and secure funding for your business. Mentors and professionals from a number of organisations will be there to assist you in reaching this stage.

The project will comprise of four key stages.

Stage 1: Women’s Enterprise Programme.
Aims to develop your business confidence and develop the mental mindset required to run a successful business. Three half day workshops and two tele-classes will be run over a three month period, along with one to one email and telephone support. A dedicated online forum will also be provided to enable members to share ideas and support throughout this period.

A maximum of twelve women will attend each workshop and programmes will start in January 2007.

Stage 2: Business Plan Workshop
This one day workshop will support you in formulating successful business plans for your business and for funding applications. The following activities will be included:
• The purpose of a business plan
• The format and content of a business plan
• The mission and objectives of the business
• Self assessment activity
• Marketing and financial requirements
• Action planning.

Business plan workshops will be held in April 2007.

Stage 3: Sources of Finance
This half day workshop will address the key issues facing female entrepreneurs looking to access funding for their business. Hear essential information about the types of business finance available including grants, bank and asset finance, business angels and venture capital. Learn the tips for a winning business plan formula to attract the right investment for your business. We will also provide guidance on how to best present your business case to your chosen investor.

Finance workshops will be held in May 2007.

Stage 4: Panel Presentations
Once you have completed the training you will have the chance to present to and gain feedback from a panel of experts.

This will give you the opportunity to put in to practice the skills you have learnt on the programme. The panel will be made up of representatives from organisations that you will have to present to when submitting your finalised proposal. Project partner Bank of Scotland will sit on the panel.

Selection Criteria
To participate in this project you must meet the following criteria:

• Live in the South East or South West of England AND
• Running a micro business (0-9 employees) OR small to medium enterprise (>250 employees) AND
• Wishing to gain start-up funding or funding for expansion and sustainability.
